Medicare Supplement Plans 2027

Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: The 10 Plans, 2027 Costs and How to Choose

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 29, 2026

Medicare Supplement plans for 2027 are the same 10 standardized plans (A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N) that pay some or all of the costs Original Medicare leaves behind. The benefits are set by federal law, so Plan G from one company covers exactly what Plan G from another company covers. What changes in 2027 is the dollar amounts: the high-deductible Plan F and G deductible rises to $3,050, and the Plan K and L out-of-pocket limits rise to $8,360 and $4,180.

A Medicare Supplement plan, also called Medigap, is a private policy that works next to Original Medicare. Medicare pays its share of an approved bill first. Your supplement then pays some or all of what is left, such as the Part A hospital deductible, the 20% Part B coinsurance and, on some plans, Part B excess charges.

Because the plans are standardized, choosing a 2027 plan comes down to three decisions: which plan letter fits how you use care, which company offers that letter at a fair price where you live, and whether you can buy it without health questions. This guide walks through all three with the 2027 figures CMS has already published. For the plan-by-plan grid, see our Medicare Supplement plans comparison chart for 2027, and for background on how Medigap fits with Medicare, start with our Medigap overview.

What Changes for Medicare Supplement Plans in 2027

Medicare Supplement plans 2027 key numbers: $3,050 high-deductible G deductible, Plan K and L limits, projected Part B deductible

The plan letters and their benefits do not change for 2027. The amounts you can owe under Original Medicare do, and those amounts drive what each plan is worth. CMS has already released some 2027 figures. Others are still projections from the 2026 Medicare Trustees Report and will be final when CMS announces them, usually in November.

2027 figureAmountStatus
High-deductible Plan F and Plan G deductible$3,050 a yearFinal (CMS)
Plan K out-of-pocket limit$8,360Final (CMS)
Plan L out-of-pocket limit$4,180Final (CMS)
Part B standard premium$209.50 a monthProjected (2026 Trustees Report)
Part B deductible$292Projected (2026 Trustees Report)
Part A hospital deductible$1,788 per benefit periodProjected (2026 Trustees Report)
Part D deductible (drug plans)Up to $700Final
Part D out-of-pocket cap$2,400Final

2026 comparisons: Part B premium $202.90, Part B deductible $283, Part A deductible $1,736, high-deductible F/G deductible $2,950.

What this means for you: Plans that cover the Part A deductible (B, C, D, F, G, N, and partly K, L and M) absorb the projected $52 increase for you. Plans that leave the Part B deductible to you, which is every plan except C and F, mean you pay the projected $292 yourself.

The 10 Medicare Supplement Plans and Who Each One Fits

Every state except Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin uses the same 10 lettered plans. Those three states standardize their plans differently, so the letters below do not apply there.

Plan G. The most popular choice for new enrollees. It covers everything Original Medicare leaves except the Part B deductible.

Plan N. Lower premium than Plan G. You pay the Part B deductible, copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for an ER visit that does not lead to admission, plus any Part B excess charges.

High-deductible Plan G. Same coverage as Plan G after you meet a $3,050 deductible in 2027, in exchange for a much lower premium.

Plans F and C. They also cover the Part B deductible, but only people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020 can buy them.

Plans A, B, D, K, L and M fill smaller gaps. Plans K and L pay a percentage of most costs until you hit their yearly out-of-pocket limit, then pay 100% of covered costs for the rest of the year. If you want to read how the older letters compare, our Plan F guide explains why it is closed to new enrollees.

Which 2027 Plans Most People Choose

For someone turning 65 in 2027, the real choice is usually between Plan G, Plan N and high-deductible Plan G. All three cover the big risks the same way: hospital stays, skilled nursing coinsurance and the 20% Part B share on large bills. The difference is how much you pay up front in premium versus how much you pay when you use care.

PlanWhat you still pay in 2027Best fit
Plan GThe Part B deductible (projected $292)You want predictable costs and see doctors often
Plan NPart B deductible, office copays up to $20, ER copays up to $50, excess chargesYou are healthy, rarely see specialists and want a lower premium
High-deductible GUp to $3,050 in covered costs before the plan paysYou can cover a few thousand dollars in a bad year and want the lowest premium

Broker tip: Pick the plan for the year you hope you never have, not the year you expect. The premium is a sure cost every month. The deductible and copays only matter when you need care.

What Medicare Supplement Plans Cost Heading Into 2027

Medicare Supplement plans 2027 price range: lowest and highest Plan G and Plan N monthly premiums in New Jersey

Prices are set by each company in each state and change with your age, ZIP code, gender and tobacco use. The clearest public snapshot we found is New Jersey’s official chart, which lists every company’s monthly price for a 65-year-old man as of September 2026.

Plan (New Jersey, man age 65)Lowest monthly priceHighest monthly priceSpread per year
Plan G$164.31$299.88$1,626.84
Plan N$119.90$200.84$971.28
High-deductible Plan G$50.83$92.08$495.00

The same Plan G can cost more than $1,600 a year more from one company than another, for identical benefits. That is why comparing companies matters as much as choosing the letter. Our guide to comparing Medicare Supplement plans for 2027 shows what to check beyond the first-year price.

When You Can Enroll in a 2027 Medicare Supplement Plan

1

Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period. It lasts six months and starts the first month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During it, companies must sell you any plan they offer at their standard price, regardless of health.

2

Guaranteed issue situations. Certain events, such as losing employer coverage or leaving a Medicare Advantage plan during a trial period, give you a limited window to buy some plans without health questions.

3

Any other time. You can apply whenever you like, but outside those windows most companies can ask health questions and decline you or charge more. Some states add their own yearly switching rules.

Medicare Supplement plans are not tied to the fall Annual Enrollment Period the way Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are. If you are new to Medicare, read our Medicare Part B guide first, because your Medigap window is tied to your Part B start date.

How to Choose Your 2027 Plan in Four Steps

1

Pick the letter. Start with Plan G, then ask whether Plan N’s copays or high-deductible G’s deductible would save you money for how you use care.

2

Get quotes from several companies. Compare the same letter across companies in your ZIP code. Benefits are identical, so the price and the company’s history are what differ.

3

Ask how the price will change. Find out whether the company prices by attained age, issue age or community rating, and look at its past rate increases.

4

Line up drug coverage. Medicare Supplement plans do not cover prescriptions. Pair yours with a Part D plan, which has a deductible of up to $700 and a $2,400 out-of-pocket cap in 2027.

Bottom Line

Medicare Supplement plans in 2027 keep the same 10 standardized benefit designs, but the dollar amounts around them rise, including a $3,050 high-deductible G and F deductible. Most new enrollees choose Plan G, Plan N or high-deductible G. Because identical plans can differ in price by more than $1,600 a year, get quotes from several companies before you decide.

Medicare Supplement Plans 2027 — Frequently Asked Questions

➤ Are Medicare Supplement plans changing in 2027?

The benefits of each lettered plan stay the same in 2027. The amounts you can owe under Original Medicare change, including the high-deductible Plan F and G deductible, which CMS set at $3,050, and the Plan K and L out-of-pocket limits of $8,360 and $4,180.

➤ What is the most popular Medicare Supplement plan for 2027?

Plan G is the most common choice for people new to Medicare. It covers everything Original Medicare leaves except the Part B deductible, which is projected at $292 for 2027.

➤ Can I still buy Plan F in 2027?

Only if you were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Everyone who became eligible on or after that date can choose Plan G, which has the same coverage except the Part B deductible.

➤ How much will a Medicare Supplement plan cost in 2027?

It depends on your state, ZIP code, age, gender and tobacco use. In New Jersey’s September 2026 chart, Plan G for a 65-year-old man ranged from $164.31 to $299.88 a month and Plan N from $119.90 to $200.84.

➤ When should I buy a Medicare Supplement plan?

The best time is your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which starts the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During it you cannot be turned down or charged more because of your health.

➤ Do Medicare Supplement plans include drug coverage?

No. Plans sold today do not cover outpatient prescriptions, so most people pair a supplement with a separate Part D drug plan.

➤ Is the 2027 Part B deductible final?

Not yet. The $292 figure is the Medicare Trustees’ projection. CMS usually announces the final Part B premium and deductible in November.

➤ Can I use my Medicare Supplement plan with any doctor?

Yes. A Medicare Supplement plan works with any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, with no network and no referrals.
