Many people still know this company as Medico. Since June 2023 its Medicare Supplement policies have been marketed as Wellabe, but the legal insurer on the policy is still a Medico company. That is why state rate guides, policy documents and premium notices often show the Medico name.

This page focuses on what the Medico name means for your 2027 coverage: which Medico company issues your policy, how its premiums rise with age, how preferred and standard rates differ, and what its filed rate changes look like. For the brand’s plans, states and extras, see our Wellabe Medicare Supplement plans 2027 page.

Medico and Wellabe: Same Policies, Two Names

American Enterprise Group adopted the Wellabe brand but did not rename its insurance companies. A notice to agents at the time of the change said products, policies, premiums and coverage stayed the same. If you bought a Medico Medigap plan before 2023, your policy did not change because of the new name.

How Medico Premiums Rise With Age

Medico uses attained-age pricing, which Maryland’s guide labels “Individual Market-Attained Age.” Your premium is based on your current age, so it moves up as you get older. Maryland is one of the few states that prints a company’s prices at several ages, which lets us show the full curve.

Age (MD, man, preferred)Plan GPlan NHigh-deductible G
65$215$152$74
70$217$153$75
75$231$163$80
80$273$193$94
85$333$235$115

Monthly premiums as of July 1, 2026, Maryland Insurance Administration Medicare supplement rate guide. Does not include future rate increases.

Our math: from age 65 to 85, Medico’s Plan G rises 55% from aging alone, about $1,416 more per year, before any company-wide rate increase. Most of the jump comes after 75.

Preferred vs Standard Rates and Maryland's Birthday Window

Medico prices healthier applicants at preferred rates and others at standard rates. In Maryland, a 65-year-old man pays $215 for Plan G at preferred rates and $236 at standard rates, a $252-a-year difference.

Open enrollment. Maryland’s guide says standard rates cannot be used during your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period.

Guaranteed issue. Standard rates also cannot be used when you apply in a guaranteed issue situation.

Birthday window. Maryland gives Medigap policyholders a 30-day window after their birthday each year to switch, and standard rates cannot be charged then either.

Broker tip: Applying during a protected window can mean you get the lower preferred price even with health issues. Outside those windows, Medico can underwrite you.

Medico Medicare Supplement plans 2027 key facts: underwriters, discount and rating

Among the companies Maryland lists with male preferred rates at age 65, Plan G ranged from $203 to $300 a month. Medico’s $215 sat near the low end of that group.

Maryland, man 65, preferredPlan GPlan N
Lowest in group$203 (Monitor Life of NY)$121 (First Health Life and Health)
Medico Insurance Company$215$152
Highest in group$300 (Aetna Health Insurance)$246 (United American)
Medico with 12.3% household discount (our math)about $189about $133

Compared only with carriers labeled Male Preferred in the July 2026 Maryland guide. Discount math assumes the full 12.3% applies.

With the household discount, Medico’s Plan G would come in below the lowest undiscounted preferred price in that group. Discounts at other companies would change the order, so compare final prices.

Should You Keep, Buy or Switch a Medico Plan for 2027?

1

If you already have Medico. Your benefits are fixed by your plan letter. Look at your latest premium notice and compare it with current quotes for the same letter.

2

If you are new to Medicare. Get Medico’s price during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period, when it cannot use your health to set the price.

3

If you are thinking of switching. Outside open enrollment and birthday-rule states, apply and get approved for the new plan before you cancel Medico.

If you are deciding between letters, compare Plan G for 2027 with Plan N.

Bottom Line

Medico is still the insurance company behind Wellabe Medigap policies, and existing Medico policies kept their coverage after the 2023 brand change. Maryland’s official guide shows Medico’s Plan G at $215 at age 65 rising to $333 by 85, plus a 12.3% household discount, so compare prices at your age and look at rate history before you buy or switch.
