Medicare Supplement Plan G
Medicare Plan G offers more coverage than any other Medigap plan available. This is especially true since Plan F was removed from the lineup of plans for anyone new to Medicare on January 1st, 2020 or later.
Plan F was simply too expensive and Plan G was always a better value. With lower rates and rate increases and almost the same coverage, Medicare Plan G is now the top plan.
Medicare Plan G Coverage
It’s often easier to state what Plan G doesn’t cover, rather than the massive list of items it does cover.
Medicare plan G pays 100% of the gaps, or expenses, that Medicare Part A and B do not cover except for just one small deductible. This is called the Medicare Part B deductible, and you’re required to pay this once per calendar year.
In the year 2021, this deductible amount was $203, and in 2022 it will most like be close to $210. This means you’ll need to pay the first $210 or so of your medical bills each year, and then Medicare and Plan G will pick up the remaining bills.
This includes all hospital costs as well as any doctor’s bills. The only thing not covered is any prescriptions you fill at the pharmacy. Drugs administered in the doctor’s office as often covered by Medicare Part B.
Medicare Plan G Network
As with all of the Medigap plans, there is no network. Because Medicare is a federal program, and Medigap follows it wherever you go, there is no medical network that you need to stay within to use your Plan G coverage.
You may visit any doctor, specialist, or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare. Referrals are not needed, nor is any prior authorization for procedures.
If Medicare pays first, Plan G must pick up the difference by law.
